Field notes

What the rooms
found this week.

Short notes from Build Night rooms. Somebody tried something, it worked or it didn't, and here's what happened. No reviews, no rankings, no affiliate links.

The archive

There's nothing here yet.

The first Build Night hasn't happened. When it does, what actually got built — and what didn't — gets written up here the same week, by the people who were in the room.

We could have filled this page with plausible-sounding examples. You'd have no way to tell, which is exactly why we didn't.

Can't make it to a room

The second-best seat in the room.

One email, every week, without fail. What somebody brought in broken, what fixed it, and what turned out to be a waste of everyone's time. Written by people who were in the room, not by a marketing department. When there are rooms running every night of the week, it goes out every day — until then it's weekly and it doesn't skip.

It is not the same as being there. Reading what somebody else fixed won't fix your thing. If there's a room near you, go to the room and read this on the weeks you can't.

Free, and it stays free. There's no paid version. Unsubscribe link in every one. This list is never handed to the sponsor and never sold — that's the whole deal.

From the room

Found something worth passing on?

Doesn't have to be impressive. The most useful notes are usually small things that saved somebody an afternoon — or cost them one.

Plain language. Assume the reader wasn't there.

Ground rules

How we write these

  • What somebody did, not what's best

We report what happened in a room on a night. We don't rank things and we don't tell you what to use.

  • Nobody pays to be in here

No sponsored notes, no affiliate links, ever. If a company ever pays for a mention, this page becomes worthless and so does the network behind it.

  • Failures get equal billing

What didn't work is more useful than what did, and almost nobody publishes it.

  • Short on purpose

A few paragraphs. If it needs a whole article, it probably needs a room instead.

Paid for byWeRunYourBiz

They build and run inventory and operations systems inside real businesses. They pay for every room. They don't sell in any of them.
